Standards and Expectations Children   in   Class   3   are   expected   to   have   a   higher   level   of   independence   and   take   greater   responsibility   for   their   learning.      Children   are   encouraged   to   be well   prepared   and   organized   during   lessons.      High   standards   of   work   are   expected   at   all   times,   including   work   completed   at   home.     All   pupils   are   encouraged to   work   their   very   hardest   and   contribute   fully   to   class   life.      They   are   expected   to   be   well   behaved,   polite   and   helpful   at   all   times   and   follow   our   `Golden Rules’. Members of Class 3 should be smart and wear school uniform at all times. Please note that trainers are only allowed for outdoor games. Curriculum To see the Curriculum Maps for 2016-17 click on these links - core subjects  and foundation subjects . Reading  In   Yr   3,   some   children’s   reading   skills   have   been   developed   significantly   enough   for   them   to   leave   behind   the   reading   scheme   and   begin   the   process   of   self selection   of   personal   reading   material.   The   children   that   still   need   the   support   and   structure   of   a   reading   scheme   will   remain   on   the   Oxford   Reading   Tree. Each   child’s   individual   reading   skills   are   monitored   and   extended   during   the   Literacy   Hour,   and   children   will   be   bringing   home   a   book   chosen   from   the reading   corner   or   a   book   from   our   banded   reading   scheme.     As   this   selection   is   a   learning   process,   children   may   occasionally   bring   unsuitable   material   home, e.g   too   difficult   or   easy.     You   can   help   this   process   by   talking   with   your   child   about   their   choices   and   encouraging   them   to   choose   more   appropriate   material.     The   class   teacher   will   also   help   children   with   this   process.      With   these   books   will   be   a   reading   record.   Children   are   asked   to   read   regularly,   at   least   3   times   a week and reading record to be returned with parents’ signature. Homework The   children   have   a   homework   book   into   which   they   will   write   details   of   homework   set.     The   amount   of   time   they   spend   on   the   homework   should   not   exceed 30   minutes.      On   nights   where   specific   homework   is   not   set,   the   children   are   expected   to   use   the   time   for   reading,   revision   of   mental   maths   and   times   tables.     The   children   will   bring   home   spellings   which   will   be   reinforced   during   daily   spelling   sessions.      Reinforcing   these   at   home   daily   will   increase   confidence   and help children to learn them thoroughly. Parents If you need to speak to the class teacher about any aspect of your child’s schooling, please do not hesitate to make an appointment after school. Class Teacher:  Miss A Brown
